Exploring Citizen Science For Goat

On Sunday, I went to the rice fields for walking and refreshing. I met a lot of familiar people because they were my neighbors. Most of them, they work as agricultural laborers and raise goats or cows. Both of these animals have been considered the king of Java. According to history the ancestors could buy something valuable because of raising and selling it due to easy maintenance they eat grass. Unfortunately grass has become difficult lately. They usually buy or get it in the mountains that so far from our village. This is the impact of the population density and the dense growth of the building. From this issue, I reflected for a moment thinking about the waste from crops that were abundant but not yet utilized. They are corn cobs, peanut shells, and more. After harvesting, they are burned or dumped in rivers, causing the flow of water to be blocked when it rains into floods. This is very important to learn because each other have connection. I remember when I was in high school, I learned about fermenting garbage for organic fertilizer. Moreover, I've heard the news that there are goats who eat garbage (https://youtu.be/bsK-SoP9gLY). I tried to go to one of my neighbors to make an observation about his unique goat. I found evidence that his goats ate crop waste. The manufacturing process is done by grinding using a machine that makes it smoothly. I want to try to do an experiment if the harvested waste is fermented, it will be long term. Some sources state that the goat grew healthy (https://youtu.be/b3UCG0PlAu4). Well, I curious the breeding of the goat. I have a plane to find the data from my house using my own goat later. I will make observations every day in the morning. The tools that I will need are goat's weight scales, take a note, cellphone camera and tripod. The results of his observations are in the form of photos, short videos, and writings. The last is shared the results through blogs, instagram posts, instagram reels, whatsapp status, facebook posts, and youtube shorts as follow.
https://youtu.be/RbOS68BKSnM I hope it is helpful. Thank you ^_^ Have a nice day.

Goats are one of the easiest livestock to breed. they can eat grass in the yard. Most of these animals are kept in villages. but recently, several cities have been breeding this animal. but the problem is that these animals have difficulty getting food from the grass because in the city it is difficult to find vacant grassy land so this is a challenge. The unique thing is that these animals can eat corn cobs, peanut shells, and more which are usually thrown away and become piles of garbage. with this solution it may be the first step that by breeding this goat can reduce the waste mentioned above (corn cobs, peanut shells, and more).
very informative Ranger Mia!

That's a brilliant idea, some farmers dump crops waste directly without processing it to make something more useful or burn it which cause smoke and air pollution. I couldn't agree more that this waste should be used for goats and cows food. I think this brilliant idea can attract scientist to do more research about waste crops for cattle, for example from the nutrition aspect or even from the environmental aspect. It's not impossible if they can find a surprising fact about this, probably it can affect the amount of biogas contained in cattle's feces or other unexpected findings!

You started this blog with a very good narrative. by telling the life of the community around you and identifying the problems that occur there. I seemed to be reading the background of a great discovery. Very good work, mia, considering that at this time we are constantly trying to find innovations to overcome the problems that occur around us. Hopefully later your research will be successful and will have a good impact, especially in reducing corn waste.

i love how you observe your surroundings and gonna do it yourself. It is sad to know that grass is hard to get in your area. Meanwhile here in my neighborhood farmers easily get grass because it’s still very abundant. But there is no guarantee that the grass will remain abundant. Can’t wait to know the result of your citizens science project ranger! ^^

Thank you for the video Ranger Mia! You are really thinking like a citizen scientist.

I really like the way you explain the background of the project that caught your attention. My family in the village also has goats. there we can find grass easily. sometimes we also give the leaves to our goats. In my opinion, with this project the livestock will be greatly helped. especially for areas where it is difficult to find grass to feed the goats. That's really cool Mia.
